A Touch of Romance in Fremantle

Friday evening saw Fenella Peacock showcase her A/W 12 ‘Poetica’ Collection in the unlikely setting of a bare-bones warehouse in Fremantle.  The space is what historic Fremantle is all about – exposed brick, timber ceiling and atmosphere plus.  With the addition of long draped red velvet curtains and beautiful soft lighting, what could have been drab and uninspiring became intimate and romantic.

Along with a preview of Fenella’s Spring/Summer 12/13 ‘Odalisque’ collection the evening was also a Fundraiser event for the Junior Exchange Sailing Scheme (J.E.S.S) – a non-profit organisation that sends six talented young WA sailors overseas each year to experience the demanding European sailing scene.

For those not familiar with Fenella Peacocks designs I will try and set the tone.  Fenella does not do body-con. Rather, think feminine soft pieces that are perfect for layering.  Fenella has a complete understanding of how certain fabrics can be cut, draped and gathered, not to obscure the female form, but to lightly skim and gather to create a feminine silhouette. The Fenella woman is at once elegant, sophisticated and more importantly draped in luxurious comfort.
It was evident when the ‘Poetica’ pieces appeared that Fenella has created a collection for Autumn and Winter that has all of the above characteristics and some.  Dark dramatic pieces were shown alongside lighter tones emphasising the layering possibilities.  It’s the layering and adaptability of each piece that makes the label such a joy to own as they can be worn together with other Fenella pieces or on their own with leggings, stockings or tights.

If you make any significant clothing purchases this Autumn/Winter I urge you to consider a piece from Fenella Peacock.  You will delight in the sophisticated take on the easy-going style of dress we Western Australians can do so well.  And I can almost guarantee you will want to wear Fenella Peacock season after season.
